Breathtaking views of the East Sea, ocean breeze, sunny rooftop, and coffee aroma. Songjeong is full of trendy cafes and popular restaurants and it might give you a happy headache to choose only one of them to try. Today, let’s visit a few places in the area of Songjeong.

JM Coffee Company started in Busan in 1999, and now you can enjoy their coffee at five locations or you can order them online. This location (technically in Gijang, but quite close to Songjeong), JM Coffee Roasters, opened in 2013 and this is the brand’s flagship store. They roast coffee beans on the site so this is literally a ‘factory style’ café.
The list of its coffee types does not fall short of its fame. You can choose single-origin coffee among eight or nine beans. Dutch coffee, espresso variations, and other coffee-based drinks will make your choice even harder. They serve a wide variety of pastries and baked goods as well.
The place is quite large, but it could get quite crowded during weekends or holidays. We ordered Nitro coffee (cold brew coffee infused with nitrogen gas) and affogato (ice cream topped with a shot of hot espresso.) (Update: They don’t serve Nitro coffee anymore.)
When you visit cafes or coffee houses in Songjeong and Gijang, chances are you will find seats with spectacular views. And JM Coffee Roaster is not an exception. By the way, if you are an aficionado of coffee, you can find other coffee-related products like drippers and coffee decanters here in addition to coffee beans.

Kichinito Kitchen is a brunch café in Songjeong. When you find the restaurant on the map or navigation, its location may not be a place where you would expect cafes and restaurants in East Busan to be. It is in the middle of a residential/office area and it offers no ocean view at all. But, this fusion Australian cuisine brunch café is worth visiting.
Since it serves up during a relatively short time (10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.), expect a waiting line, especially on weekends. Guests need to use tablets to place orders. We ordered Kichinito Plater, Bacon Rice Plate, Umami Noodle, and Hibiscus limeade. Recently they have opened their second location on Jeju Island.

Located at the edge of Songjeong, Port 1902 has a spacious rooftop with a picturesque view and a pool. There are many cafes in Songjeong, but not that I am aware of any of them have a pool.
Port 1902 roasts its own coffee beans at its other location in Jeonpo-dong. You can buy their coffee beans online as well. ‘1902’ in its name is the year coffee was first introduced in Korea. We ordered Sugar Cloud, a café latte, and pork jowl steak with garlic sauce.
(UPDATE) Unfortunately, Port 1902 in Sonjeong closed in December 2020. However, the other location in Jeonpo-dong is still open and running.

In Songjeong Area
In addition to hip cafes and popular restaurants, Songjeong gives you more options to spend your time. The top destination in Songjeong is, of course, Songjeong Beach, one of the most popular beaches in South Korea for surfers. At the end of the beach, a small hill called Jukdo will present you with another view of Songjeong Beach and Songjeong harbor. If you’d love to walk along Busan’s east coastline, you can walk to Cheongsapo Daritol Observatory (청사포 다릿돌 전망대). You can take a ride on Haeundae Beach Train at Songjetong station in the recently opened Haeundae Blueline Park.
