Shopping in Busan: Complete Guide to Department Stores

July 6, 2022 by busanpedia Leave a Comment

Busan is famous for many things such as beautiful beaches and fresh seafood, but the trip to this lively city isn’t complete without shopping. As South Korea’s second-largest city, Busan offers visitors a variety of options for shopping from the world’s largest department store to a mom-and-pop shop in the back alley of Pusan National University. It’s hard to list all of them in one post, so here is the first list of department stores in Busan.

Department Stores in Busan

  • Shinsegae Department Store Centum City
  • Lotte Department Store Seomyeon
  • Lotte Department Store Dongnae
  • Lotte Mall Gwangbok
  • Lotte Department Store Centum City
  • NC Department Store Seomyeon

Shinsegae Department Store Centum City

World's largest department store in Busan, South Korea

Shinsegae Department Store Centum City has the title of the biggest department store in the world by the Guinness Book of World Records. From global luxury brands to the ice rink, you name it, it has it.

When you visit the world’s largest department store, you don’t have to worry about having short of dining options. Read my post on restaurants at Shinsegae Department Store Centum City.

How to get to Shinseage Department Store Centum City

When you visit Shinsegae Department Store Centum City, you may want to try Haeundae River Cruise, which departs from APEC Naru Park, just across from the department store. The itinerary includes Gwangan Bridge, Centum City View, and more. You can choose a departing time among day tour, sunset tour, and night tour. The tour last about one hour.

Lotte Department Store Seomyeon

Lotte Department Store in Seomyeon, Busan, South Korea

Lotte Department Store Seomyeon is a rival of Shinsegae Department Store Centum City. This shopping landmark was once the biggest department store in Busan before Shinsegae Centum City opened. It still ranks in the top ten department stores with the highest sales in South Korea. To keep its fame, the store has been remodeled several times.

Take the subway Line 1 (orange line) or Line 2 (green line). Get off at Seomyeon Station (서면/119 or 219). The department store and the subway station are connected via an underground pathway.

This shopping center is smaller than others, but it’s got a new look recently with remodeling and hosts more brands than before.

Lotte Mall Gwangbok

This shopping complex consists of Lotte Department Store, Lotte Mart, and Lotte Cinema. It is home to the world’s tallest indoor fountain, at which visitors enjoy the fountain shows for free. After watching a fountain show, go up to the rooftop garden. A stunning view of Busan’s wondosim area (원도심 / the original downtown) will welcome you. The wide view spreads out over Busan Port and Yongdusan Park.

Lotte Mall Gwangbok is located in the same area as Gukje Market, Bupyeong Kkantong Market, BIFF Square, and more points of interest.

Take the subway Line 1 (orange line). Get off at Nampo Station (남포/111). You can directly go to the shopping mall from Nampo Station through an underground pathway.

Lotte Department Store Centum City

Another Lotte Department Store in Busan. Because it is located right next to Shinsegae Department Store Centum City, the world’s biggest department store, it doesn’t seem to get much attention and visitors. Thus, it is less crowded than Shinsegae.

NC Department Store Seomyeon

NC Department Store in Seomyeon

NC Department Store was originally Newcore Department Store. The company has multiple locations nationwide in South Korea. It has three stores in Busan and NC Department Store in Seomyeon is one of them. NC Department Store targets a different market from Shinesegae, Lotte, or Hyundai Department Store. It doesn’t carry any luxury brands. The department store is home to many middle or inexpensive brands and services. The store is popular, especially among younger consumers.

There are a few more department stores in Busan. NC Department Store has two more locations at Pusan National University and Haeundae. Hyundai Department Store has its location in Busan as well. I’ll update their information as soon as I visit them.

How to get to NC Department Store Seomyeon

Take the subway Line 1 (orange line) or Line 2 (green line). Get off at Seomyeon Station (서면/119 or 219) then go out to Exit 8. Walk 400 meters (about 1,300 feet) to the store.
