July 28, 2022 by busanpedia Leave a Comment

1. Poong, the Joseon Psychiatrist (original title: 조선 정신과의사 유세풍 /joseon jeongsingwauisa yoo se-poong/)

Poong, the Joseon Psychiatrist depicts the stories of psychiatrists in the Joseon Dynasty.

Yoo Se-poong (Kim Min-jae) is once a genius physician for the royal family, but he is expelled from the royal palace due to a conspiracy. And, even worse, he loses his talent in acupuncture. He ends up working in a mysterious and yet beautiful Gyesu Village.

At the village, he meets Seo Eun-woo (Kim Hyang-gi) and Gye Ji-han (Kim Sang-kyung). Seo Eun-woo is a widow who has sharp observation skills with a big heart. Gye Ji-han becomes a teacher for Yoo Se-poong later. The story follows how Se-poong becomes a real doctor who heals patients’ heartbroken feelings.

This new K-drama is based on the novel with the same title. The premiere date of Poong, the Joseon Psychiatrist is August 1, 2022.

2. Hunted (original title: 멧돼지 사냥 /metdwaeji sanyang/)

This 4-episode mystery K-drama tells a story of a missing case that takes place on the boar hunting day.

Young-soo (Park Ho-san) lives in a village in a rural area with his wife, Chae-jung (Kim Soo-jin). He goes a boar hunting with his friends because the boars do damage to crops. On that day, his son goes missing.

Ok-soon (Ye Soo-jug) lives in the same village as Young-soo. She lost her son and daughter-in-law after a house fire. Since then, she has been suspicious of the villagers setting fire on purpose. Now she has Alzheimer’s disease and her condition and suspicion get worse.

Hunted will premiere on August 1, 2022.

3. If You Wish Upon Me (original title: 당신이 소원을 말하면 /dangsini sowoneul malhamyeon/)

If You Wish Upon Me is a new Korean drama inspired by a real foundation in the Netherlands, which fulfills the wishes of terminal cancer patients.

Life has never been easy or nice to Yoon Gyeo-rye (Ji Chang-wook.) He spent his childhood at an orphanage. A juvenile detention center and later prison are familiar places to him. He has always yearned for a normal life, but it seems just a dream to him. One day, he gets involved in an incident and he is ordered to serve community service at a hospice hospital. There, he meets Seo Yeon-joo (Choi Sooyoung, Girls’ Generation) and Kang Tae-sik (Sung Dong-il). Tae-sik is a team leader of volunteers and Yeon-joo is a nurse at the hospital. There, the staff and volunteers try to help the patients fulfil their last wishes.

The new series is scheduled to premiere on KBS, wavve, and Viu on August 10, 2022.

4. A Model Family (original title: 모범가족 /mobeomgajok/)

Dong-ha (Jung Woo) has lived a plain and ordinary life, but his life has led him to the brink of bankruptcy and divorce. While he is struggling to save himself from these problems, he accidentally runs into a car with a lot of money and takes it with him. However, the consequence is much more severe than he could imagine.

The money Dong-ha takes belongs to Gwang-cheol (Park Hee-soon), a No. 2 in a drug gang. This unfortunate incident gets Dong-ha involved with the gang. Now, Gwang-cheol uses Dong-ha as his distribution channel.

The story gets more complicated with Eun-joo (Yoon Jin-seo), Dong-ha’s wife, who has her own secret, and Detective Joo-hyun (Park Ji-yeon), who investigates Dong-ha and Gwang-cheol.

This Korean crime thriller will air on August 12, 2022, on Netflix.

5. Stock Struck (original title: 개미가 타고 있어요 /gaemiga tago isseoyo/)

Stock Struck claims to be South Korea’s first stock-investing drama. The story follows the ups and (many) downs of stock investments of five people, who have a secretive meeting. At the meeting, they talk, share, and learn about life, love, and other events through the window of stock investment.

Yoo Mi-seo (Han Ji-eun), a bride-to-be, is new to the stock market but, unfortunately, she has lost her money in the market. Choi Sun-woo (Hong Jong-hyun) is a part-time worker at a convenience store, but he drives an expensive automobile.

YOLO (You Only Live Once) is the life motto of Kang San (Jung Moon-sung). He rarely cares about the future or success but focuses on happiness. Jung Haeng-ja (Kim Sun-young) runs a popular pork feet restaurant. Kim Jin-bae (Jang Gwang) retired from his job, and he wants to start the second part of his life by investing in the stock market. This new comic drama premieres on August 12, 2022.

6. Good Job (original title: 굿잡)

Good Job is a new Korean drama that has all the usual ingredients of Korean dramas: chaebol (if you are a fan of Kdramas, you would and should know this Korean word), romance, extraordinary talents, and more.

Eun Sun-woo (Jung Il-woo) is super-smart, super-athletic, and super-rich. He lives a double life. Publically he runs the biggest conglomerate in South Korea, but on the secretive side, he is a private investigator.

Don Se-ra (Know Yuri, Girls’ Generation) has an ability with supervision. She always wears a thick pair of glasses to hide her talent. She has a big heart and always helps others. Sun-woo and Se-ra get to know each other due to an investigation and their relationship gets both chaotic and romantic.

Good Job will fill the spot after the series of Extraordinary Attorney Woo ends, which is currently the hottest drama in South Korea. I bet they will feel a lot of pressure. Good Job will air on ENA on August 24, 2022.

7. Unicorn (original title: 유니콘)

Unicorn is a new Korean sitcom featuring Shin Ha-kyun and Won Jin-a. The drama series follows a chaotic adventure of a new startup McComb.

Steve (Shin Ha-kyun) is a CEO of McComb and he is a subtly but surely crazy guy. He pretends to be a flawless business leader. However, in his real life, he is obsessed with the number of “likes,” he has to show off that he graduated from a top elite school, he works at a standing desk solely because it’s a new trend although it is too hard for him to work like that, and much more.

This Korean sitcom will be released on Coupang Play on August 26, 2022.
