1. Bloody Heart (original title: 붉은 단심 /bulgeun dansim/)
Bloody Heart is the first K-drama to premiere in May 2022. It is a fictional historical Kdrama with a romance and political power struggles. Lee Tae (Lee Joon) is a King of Joseon who wants to have absolute power. Yoo Jeong (Kang Han-na) is a woman full of a free spirit. They fall in love in the beginning but later the world leads them to encounter each other as political enemies. Jang Hyeok plays the Deputy Prime Minister, who stands on the opposite side of the King. Blood Heart will premiere on KBS 2 and Wavve on May 2, 2022.
2. The Sound of Magic (original title: 안나라수마나라 /annarasoomanara/)
“Do you believe in magic?” The Sound of Magic is a fantasy music Kdrama. Yoon A-yi (Choi Seong-eun) is a high school student who has to support herself and her younger sister by working part-time jobs. Na Ildeun (Hwang In-yeop) is a friend of Yoon A-yi and a top student in his school, but he is forced to be a goal-driven person. The story starts when Yoon A-yi meets Lee Eul (Ji Chang-wook), who is a magician and live in an abandoned amusement park. Since then, things unexplainable happen to her thanks to Lee Eul. This Korean drama is based on a Naver Webtoon with the same title. The show starts on JTBC and Netflix on May 6, 2022.
3. Woori the Virgin (original title: 우리는 오늘부터 /woorineun oneulbooteo/)
Woori the Virgin is a romantic comedy. As you may guess from the title, this Korean drama is a remake of US TV show, Jane the Virgin. Oh Woo-ri (Im Soo-hyang) is very determined to save her virginity until her marriage but, unfortunately, she gets pregnant due to a doctor’s mistake during her checkup. The biological father is Raphael played by Sung Hoon. This Kdrama will air on SBS on May 9, 2022.
4. Rose Mansion (original title: 장미맨션 /jangmi/ mansion)
Rose Mansion is a mystery thriller. Jina returns home to find her missing sister, but the home is not a place for her to want to come back. Detective Minsoo helps Jina to find her sister, but they run into suspicious neighbors and unexpected events and truth. This Korean TV show is restricted to those who are 18 years old or above. The drama premieres on TVING on May 13, 2022.
5. Golden Mask (original title: 황금가면 /hwanggeum gamyeon/)
Golden Mask is a weekday soap-opera. This Kdrama seems to have every plot in it: greed, desire, a Cinderella story, revenge, you name it, it’s got it. Cha Ye-ryun plays Yoo Soo-yeon who falls in love with a son of chaebol (if you are not familiar with this term, you are a relative newbie to the Kdrama world – it means a large conglomerate controlled by a person or family in South Korea.) and leads the drama through a wave of events. Golden Mask will start to air on KBS 2 and Wavve from May 23, 2022.
6. Eve (original title: 이브)
Here comes another revenge drama. This is a story of how Lee Ra-el (Seo Ye-ji) whose family was destroyed by people in power. She planned and prepared her revenge for 13 years. Now she is ready to execute it with help of Seo Eun-pyeong (Lee Sang-yeob) This Kdrama again has chaebol, revenge, twisted plots, and, of course, romance. The station, tvN, has not released its official trailers yet. I’ll update it here as soon as it is released. In the meantime, you can watch its making video from the link below. Eve’s premiere date is May 25, 2022.
7. Doctor Lawyer (original title: 닥터 로이어)
MBC, the Korean TV network that airs this Kdrama, defines this show as a medical suspense legal drama. Han I-han (So Ji-seop) was once a top surgeon, but he lost everything because of one surgery. It was a setup to destroy him. Now he becomes a lawyer specializing in medical litigation. On the other side, Geum Seok-yeong (Im Soo-hyang) is a district attorney who lost her family and lover because of the surgery I-han performed. She works to fight against medical crimes. I-han and Seok-yeong fight against people with money and power, who believe they can decide whose lives matter or not. Doctor Lawyer airs on MBC, May 27, 2022.
