New K-Dramas in June 2022 (Part 3)

June 21, 2022 by busanpedia Leave a Comment

1. Anna (original title: 안나)

Yoo-mi (Bae Suzy) tells just a simple lie and she ends up living a completely different life. Her husband, Ji-hoon (Kim Joon-han) is an ambitious man and pursues future goals in his life. Ji-won (Park Ye-young) is Yu-mi’s only friend who Yu-mi trusts and relies on. Another character, Hyun-joo (Jung Eun-chae) lives a high-end life without respecting anyone else and later she conflicts with Anna, another persona of Yu-mi. Anna will premiere on Coupang Play on June 24, 2022.

2. Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area (original title: 종이의 집: 공동경제구역 /jongiui jip: gongdonggyeongjeguyeok)

Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area is a makeover of the internationally successful Spanish series Money Heist. In the original show, the story is about a heist of a currency mint by a team of criminals. The change in the Korean one comes as the heist happens in an imaginative situation where South Korea and North Korea unify and combine two currencies. A group of thieves plans a heist on the Joint Economic Area central bank.

You will find familiar faces in this heist thriller: Oldboy villain Yoo Ji-tae as Professor, Lost actress Kim Yun-jin as Negotiator, Burning’s heroin Jun Jong-seo as Tokyo, Squid Game actor Park Hae-soo as Berlin, and more.

The complete season will be released on June 24, 2022, on Netflix.

3. Becoming Witch (original title: 마녀는 살아있다 /manyeoneun salaitda/)

This is a story of three friends, who have completely different lives but all have enemies that they want to kill.

Gong Ma-ri (Lee Yu-ri) is a housewife and she was living a happy life with her husband and daughter until she finds out that her husband is having an affair. She wants to end her marriage in an uncommon way.

Chae Hee-soo (Lee Min-young) is a daughter-in-law of a super-wealthy family (if you are a fan of Korean drama, you know chaebol, right?) Her marriage has been rocky. She looks after her mother-in-law who is suffering from Alzheimer’s. Hee-soo is infertile and has to bear her husband’s indifference to her. One day, her mother-in-law suggests to her a terrifying and yet tempting offer.

Lastly, the husband of Yang Jin-a (Yoon So-yi) was not a good person. When he died, she collects a large sum of money from his life insurance policy. She could change her life with that money, but the money becomes a burden to her and she suffers from the anxiety that her money could be taken away by someone. Becoming Witch airs on June 25, 2022, on TV Chosun.

4. Café Minamdang (original title: 미남당 /minamdang/)

This new K-drama follows a story of a former criminal profiler Nam Han-joon (Seo In-guk), but a current scammer imposing as a fortune teller and a female detective, Han Jae-hee (Oh Yeon-seo), who gets involved with him.

Nam Han-joon is a former criminal profiler, but he now works as a fraudster. He acts as a fortune teller for his scams and runs the fortune teller shop, Minamdang. Han-joon attracts customers thanks to his good-looking appearance and smooth-talking skills. He scams his customers for money, but he also gets involved in their cases and helps solve them.

Han Jae-hee is a 3-year detective. She is enthusiastic about her job and tries to be a good and righteous cop. Somehow, she gets involved with Nam Han-Joon.

Cafe Minamdang is based on an award-winning web novel and it airs on June 27, 2022, on KBS 2 and Netflix.

Detective Hae-joon (Park Hae-il) meets Seo-rae (Tang Wei) while he is working on a case of unnatural death in the mountains. Seo-rae is the wife of the victim. While investigating the case, Hae-Joon suspects her but at the same time, he is getting interested in her more and more.
