Haeundae New Town (해운대 신시가지) in Haeundae-gu is the first urban-planned district of Busan. The ‘Green City’ has become the region’s new name as the area gets ready for a new transformation. With a population of 120,000, it’s not too hard to find good restaurants and cafes in Haeundae Green City. Today, let’s stop by some of its popular places.

If you have a keen interest in porcelain and china, this is the right place for you. The owner has a large collection of porcelain and china, especially ones made by Shelley. Shelley is a British porcelain brand, but the manufacturer stopped producing its items in 1966.
The owner has spent more than ₩100,000,000 (about $100,000 USD) on her collection of porcelain. “Because Shelley has a wide variety of shapes and patterns and had produced items in a small amount, collecting them is even more interesting,” the owner says.
Besides Shelley products, you can see collections of other brands as well. If you have a chance to meet the owner at the cafe, she will be willing to give you a little tour around the cafe, and you can tell how proud and caring she is about her collections.
One caveat is, though, that you can’t bring kids. Considering the cafe’s circumstances, it’s understandable.

At Cafe Shelley, you can order black tea, flower tea, coffee, and more beverages. The cafe also serves paninis and other pastries including walnut pies. The best thing about the cafe is that all the food is served on Shelley plates and cups. Isn’t it cool?
My group ordered Bulgogi panini, Caprese panini, cafe latte, cappuccino, and a few more. Teas and coffees set you back between ₩5,500 and ₩8,000, and the panini is ₩15,000 including soup and salad.

This location is Cafe Alsan’s first store. Cafe Aslan Bakery and Coffee opened in 2011 and has expanded to 6 stores in Busan, South Korea. They roast coffee beans at their roastery and all of their bread and pastry are baked in-house.
Their Injeolmi Bread (인절미빵) is quite famous not just in Busan but in South Korea. I have been told that it’s chewy and has sweetened red beans and cream inside. The problem is…somehow I didn’t have this one. I know life is not perfect. But, I have a great excuse to come back to the cafe, don’t I?
Their coffee and other drinks cost between ₩4,500 and ₩7,500.

Songdo Idong Galbi (Korean BBQ)

Food Type
Korean BBQ (specialized in beef)

Hours
11:30 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.

- Parking available

- Website: Songdo Galbi

Songdo Idong Galbi is a nationwide franchise managed by SFG, a Korean food company with over 100 locations. The restaurant specializes in beef Korean BBQ. If you prefer pork to beef, you may want to go to Cheonjiyeon (천지연), the other restaurant on the same floor.
The menu for Korean BBQ includes fresh beef ribs (생갈비살), Idong charcoal-grilled marinated beef ribs (이동숯불갈비), fresh Korean beef sirloin (토종한우생등심) and more. The price ranges from ₩29,000 (per 250g) to ₩45,000 (per 130g). I know. When it comes to Korean BBQ, beef is not cheap in South Korea.
If the restaurant is not too busy, the server will grill the meat for you (or at least help you grill). And, of course, all side dishes are free.

Cafe Code Brown

Food Type
Coffee, dessert, and patbingsu

Update
During Covid-19, the café closed and A Twosome Place opened at the location.

A spacious coffee house at a convenient location. I know it’s a coffee house, but I had patbingsu (팥빙수/shaved ice with sweetened red beans). The prices for beverages run between ₩4,000 and ₩5,300.
