Entrance at Cafe Hayden in Busan

There is a Korean word, “뷰맛집 /view-mat-jip/.” It means a place with breathtaking views. Hayden in Gijang, Busan, is a perfect place for this word. Although it wouldn’t be an easy trip to get there on public transportation, this Busan cafe offers views that would make up for the efforts.

A corridor at Cafe Hayden

Hayden would be one of the largest cafes in Busan. It started with one building, but now it expands to two huge buildings. Right next to the cafe is Hayden Pot, a restaurant serving Korean cuisine specializing in dumpling hot pot (만두전골/mandu jeongol). Also, the brand has one more location, Hayden Sincere, near Geumjeongsanseong Fortress, which offers refreshing views of mountain forests.

At Hayden, the visitors can enjoy the views at various seatings: on the staircase style seatings in a wide open place, looking at the ocean through huge windows while staying warm in winter and cool in summer, or feeling the ocean breeze while seating outside.

Another advantage of Hayden is that it is located near several popular restaurants. As I mentioned before Hayden Pot is at the same place. You can walk to Tambok (탐복), which is famous for abalone dishes, and Bareut (바릇), where its signature dish is the cockle plate.

Outdoor seating at cafe in Gijang, Busan

Waveon Coffee opened in 2016. Situated on the coast of the East Sea, this coffee house offers one of the best ocean views among cafes in Gijang. On the first floor, it has ample outdoor seating. You can choose to lie down on bean bags or long benches, or sit down under parasols (patio umbrellas) while breathing in the ocean breeze.

Waveon’s indoor space is chic and trendy and each floor has large windows so you don’t need to worry about missing the beautiful ocean view. While both the outdoor seating on the first floor and indoor seating with cool air conditioning are great to sip your coffee, the rooftop is the place if you want to admire the view of the ocean and Imrang Beach. The one hundred eighty-degree view of fifty shades of blue will make you sound ‘Ah’.

The building of Waveon Coffee itself is an artwork. The building won Korea Architecture Awards (KAA) in 2018. Thanks to its beauty and awe-inspiring scenery, the cafe has been a filming location for many commercials and promoting clips for Busan and South Korea.

The second floor of the building is a row of separate rooms so you can enjoy the ocean view while appreciating your drinks without any interruption. The usage is limited to two hours, though. On the first floor of the building is a restaurant, Goseurak.

Located at Bon Davinci Square in Gijang-gun, Cafe de Volt 220 has probably one of the largest indoor spaces among cafes in Gijang, if not in Busan. Cafe de Volt 220 serves coffee that they roast in-house. Also, they bake pastries and bread in-house as well. Recently, the cafe has added a beer option, collaborating with Gorilla Brewing, one of Busan’s craft breweries.

In addition to coffee, beer, and pastries, they sell plants and small gardening items. You can buy illustrations and other artwork by local artists, too.

The cafe is close to Lotte Premium Outlets Dongbusan and IKEA. And, it is relatively easier to get to the cafe using public transportation compared to other cafes in Gijang.

For your information, Cafe de Volt 220 has two more locations in Yeongdo, Busan, and Chuncheon in Gwangwon-do.
