Welcome to Busanpedia!

Hi, my name is Young Yang (양효영 in Korean). Busanpedia is your go-to website for all things related to South Korea (especially Busan), Korean culture, and the Korean language. I believe these insights are essential for truly enjoying and appreciating a place when you travel or visit.

Before I dive into my story, let me share a little secret: I wasn’t born in Busan (What?!). I was actually born in Masan (now part of Changwon), a city about 50km (31 miles) west of Busan. Close enough, right? I moved to Busan when I was 9 years old and lived there until I finished college.

After college, I moved around South Korea and other parts of the world for work and study. After spending a considerable time away from Busan and South Korea, I finally settled back in Busan. While the world is beautiful and each place has its own charm, my experiences made me realize just how amazing my country and my city are.

That’s why I wanted to share the stories and images of this incredible place with people all over the world. Many of you may not have even heard of Busan, South Korea, before. Additionally, I want to share information about Korean culture and the Korean language to enhance your experience of South Korea even more.

I believe that my dual perspectives as a true local (so-called “tobagi” 토박이) and as an outsider based on my experiences living abroad can help you get to know more about Busan and South Korea.
